Swiss Brain Health Foundation Established: A Major Step for Brain Health in Switzerland and Beyond

On April 4, 2025, the Swiss Brain Health Foundation (SBHF) was officially established in Lugano – marking a significant milestone for Switzerland’s pioneering efforts to promote brain health across the life course.

Under the guiding principle One Brain, One Mind, One Health, One Planet, the Foundation is committed to a holistic, interdisciplinary, and international approach to brain health. As a non-profit organization, the SBHF will promote awareness for neurological and psychiatric health, support public health activities and prevention, advance research into brain disorders and their determinants, and empower individuals and families affected by such conditions. Its mission also includes the development of educational programs and the promotion of early diagnosis and individualized care.

The SFCNS Swiss Brain Health Plan was launched by the Swiss Federation of Clinical Neuro-Societies (SFCNS) in 2022, aligns with the WHO and European Academy of Neurology (EAN) Brain Health Strategy and aims to integrate brain health into all sectors of society.

The SFCNS Swiss Brain Health Plan is built on five strategic pillars:

  • Raising awareness and promoting preventive measures
  • Advancing interprofessional education
  • Fostering research into the determinants of brain health
  • Supporting public health and prevention
  • Empowering patients, caregivers, and families

Concrete achievements to date include the international CAS in Brain Health with participants from 16 countries, targeted prevention campaigns, research collaborations with WHO, IHME, and EAN, and the global #BrainHealthChallenge2025.

With the creation of the Swiss Brain Health Foundation, Switzerland reinforces its pioneering role in brain health and sets the stage for coordinated action at both national and international levels.
