Historic intervention of Prof. Claudio Lino Bassetti in front of the European Parliament

On October 17th, 2024, EBC Vice-President Prof. Claudio Lino Bassetti and chair of SFCNS Swiss Brain Health Plan, addressed the European Parliament's Subcommittee on Public Health (SANT) meeting on neurological health in Brussels, not only speaking about the burden of neurological disorders, but also about the momentum to prioritize brain health and brain capital in Europe and beyond. In his presentation, Prof. Claudio Lino Bassetti impressively demonstrated to the Members of the European Parliament how important it is to take immediate measures within the current mandate to counter the burden of neurological and mental brain diseases.

As Europe faces unprecedented challenges in brain health, the European Brain Council (EBC) and its community have intensified their efforts to raise awareness on this issue.

Prof. Claudio Lino Bassetti intervention was another important step in the right direction. One of the next goals is the establishment of a European Parliament Intergroup on Brain Health in the current mandate. This Intergroup would serve as a platform to foster collaboration between MEPs, experts, stakeholders, and civil society, but also as a crucial mechanism to coordinate current policy efforts, ensuring that brain health, brain research, and brain innovation receive the attention they deserve. Over 110 organizations grouping clinicians, researchers, patients, industry, NGO’s and other stakeholders as well as several MEPs have expressed their support for a dedicated EU Brain Health Plan.

We are delighted with what we have already achieved and remain committed to our goal: awareness creation about brain health as a whole and to initiate prevention programs.

Our societies depend on brain health, let’s invest in it!
