Press releases and articles

June 2017

The SFCNS is deeply saddened to hear the passing of Dr. Andrea Poretti and Dr. Isabelle Rapin.

Dr. Poretti was an associate professor of radiology and radiological science at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He will be remembered as a brilliant physician-scientist in the field of pediatric neurology and neuroimaging. Poretti published more than 100 scientific papers and gave more than 150 invited lectures internationally. He mentored numerous promising young colleagues, was known for his encyclopedic knowledge and commitment to excellence. He will be sadly missed.

Dr. Rapin was a professor emerita in both the Saul R. Korey Department of Neurology and the Department of Pediatrics at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City. Considered by many the doyenne of autism, Dr. Rapin has spent decades studying the disability – she was described by fellows being "a leading authority on autism". Dr Rapin's knowledge was exceeded only by her collaborative spirit and her unfailing willingness to engage younger colleagues in conversation who sought her wise counsel at any number of national and international meetings. She will be sadly missed.
